Can i dye my hair extensions with a box dye?

I just received a set of remy human hair extensions in the mail but they dont match my hair color. Im thinking about just dying my hair dark and dying the extensions the same dark color. I would be using a box dye to do this and am wondering if it would just ruin the extensions and dry them right out or if they would be okay? please help im very excited to start wearing them!
