Can I dye my non-Virgin Remy hair?

I recently puchased a full lace Remy wig from someone in a color 1B. However, 1B is way too dark for me so I attempted to dye it using a hair color kit (Clairol). The color didn't change at all! I've been reading that it the remy hair has already been processed they I can't color it. But I also heard that there is a way to strip it and dye it. Any suggestions?
